POSITION STATEMENTS 

In 1997 the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology and the European Association of Poisons Centres and Clinical Toxicologists published five Position Statements on Gut Decontamination in their journal.  A further Position Statement on Multiple-dose activated charcoal was published in 1999.  The Birmingham Centre of the NPIS was closely involved in the production of these Statements.  We acknowledge the generosity of Marcel Dekker Inc. in allowing us to make these statements available for scientific purposes.  The original Position Statements were published as follows:
